Dentistry

Dental disease is the accumulation of tartar on the teeth and its effect on the tissues that support the tooth. It is a very common disease afflicting both dogs and cats.  Not only is it a source of local infection, but can affect other parts of the body AND can be a source of bad breath. At Vetcetera, we can help you with dental care from demonstrations on tooth brushing, to the use of dental rinses, chews and diets to professional cleaning when needed.

When we perform professional cleanings, we include full mouth digital dental x-rays. Again, this digital technology is fast and accurate and provides us with valuable information about what is happening below the gum line. Equally important, we perform a thorough evaluation of the oral cavity. We visualize each tooth, measure the depth of dental pockets. We piece together all of this information and it allows us to make a treatment plan for each individual tooth.

In many cases, a thorough cleaning both above and below the gum line is in order. In other cases, if evaluation determines that dental extractions are required, we are equipped and experienced to perform these as needed. We utilize dental nerve blocks to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible.
